Conference and Hotel demand for Phase I of a 36,000 room Las Vegas style destination gaming resort – Spain
For over two years Salon was engaged by Las Vegas Sands Corporation to identify the levels of expected lodging demand (and facilities required) for their proposed £13 billion investment in a 36,000 key destination gaming resort in Madrid, Spain.
The focus of the work was Phase I of the resort, comprising up to 12,000 rooms (with an additional two equal sized phases to follow). Other components of the phase included 100,000 m2 of conference facilities, three Las Vegas style casinos, dozens of restaurants and theatres, as well as other supporting leisure amenities.
There are no comparable facilities in Europe (or elsewhere) with which to analyse such an investment. In order to undertake this project Salon identified and developed complex concept proxies and analysed demand / developed facility recommendations using complex scenario models.
At the end of 2013 LVS opted not to develop the project in Spain, focusing its continued expansion strategy in other international markets.
